Both Children and Parents Have A Day of Health and Fun!

  Story By: Peter M. Stephens

On Saturday, August 1, 2009, I participated in a children’s health fair for the Bay St. Louis/Waveland area at the American Legion Building in Waveland. The heath fair was sponsored by Hope Haven of Bay St. Louis. The event was held just prior to the children returning to school for a new year. I was there to represent all of the Catholic Social and Community Services agencies that the  Diocese of Biloxi offers to the citizens along the Gulf Coast. There was an array of free screenings preformed by various vendors. To highlight just two; the Lions Club preformed vision screeningsand a local dentist was doing basic dental screenings and passing out toothbrushes to the kids. Other vendors included: de l’Epee Deaf Center from the Biloxi Diocese, American Red Cross and the Waveland Fire Department.  The children appeared to be having a great time and the parents were able to get some valuable information. Despite being a modest-size event, there was a good turnout for the day. I look forward to participating again next year.
