Fair and Fesival Time

  Story By: Peter M. Stephens

On October 1st Jennifer Stackhouse, a diocesan case manager for Jackson County,  Peter M. Stephens Marketing and Guest Relations Coordinator, participated in the United Way of Jackson and George County agency fair at the Gautier Convention Center in Gautier, MS. All of the various agencies that are members of the United Way were in attendance. The occasion was to mark the half way point of their fund raising campaign. Wow! There were such a range of different agencies there. There didn’t seem to be a single spot available to set –up another booth. The event was a great way to showcase your organization and network with the different agencies within the community. As we know, no one organization can do it alone; it takes a community effort, especially during the tough economic times we are facing today.

Jennifer and I took turns walking around the convention center. This was our chance to meet and exchange information, and of course business cards, with the different organizations.  With Jennifer, as a case manager in Jackson County, this was a “Golden Opportunity “for her to get to know everyone in the community of social services.

As, for me, I did two TV spots for the United Way of Jackson and George Counties.  Another great avenue to present all of the programs that Catholic Social and Community Services has to offer to the coast. This was my first experience ever to do a TV spot, and, yes, I was very nervous. The first spot was 12 minutes and the second spot was 6 minutes. The segments aired on two different networks.

Also this month, Catholic Social and Community Services have participated in the Combined Federal Campaign this month. This is the time of the year, when the military and civil service workers can pledge part of their pay to charities. We took part in these events at VA in Biloxi, MS, Seabee Base in Gulfport, MS and Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, MS.  The event allows us to share what we do within the community and possibly garner new charitable donations through this federal program.
