Rebuilding Lives...
On August 29, 2005, one of the most devastating natural disasters in United States history made a direct hit on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. An extraordinarily powerful and deadly hurricane, Katrina carved a wide swath of catastrophic damage and inflicted large loss of life. In Mississippi alone, some 120,000 homes were destroyed or severely damaged. More than 80,000 residents are still without housing.
The Diocesan Office of Long Term Recovery is currently assisting many of our local families to rebuild their lives. Roughly 80% of the area's hurricane-damaged homes that have been reconstructed so far are the work of faith-based organizations such as ours. We exist because of your support.
Here at the Diocesan Office of Long Term Recovery, we work with reconstruction specialists, case managers, and volunteers to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina in returning to their homes, regardless of age, race, or religious affiliation. The recovery process will take years. We need you now more than ever to help rebuild Mississippi!
"I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do. What I can do, I should do. And what I should do, by the grace of God, I will do." -- Edward Everett Hale
